Hexner/Justice Residence

San Francisco, CA

The Hexner/Justice residence extensively remodels an existing house on Union Street. A new concrete base contains a stair that leads to the entry level. Above, a single all-glass bay window projects, sheltering the front door. Inside the building, a new stair with glass railings connects all levels and serves as a gallery for an art collection. The top floor is a single room with windows at either end; a sliding glass screen separates kitchen and family room from formal spaces. A storage wall and horizontal window run the full length of the house and continue into the garden as an outdoor cooking area.
