The Tank Lounge at Monterey Bay Aquarium is a habitable tank surveying the Monterey Bay. The Tank Lounge presents some of the inner workings on the exterior.

Tank Lounge adds a third tank to the roofscape of the aquarium. It expands the 720sf deck to 944sf. The curved bay envelops the panoramic view of the Monterey Bay.

This inside out vessel sits on its square base and terminates in an inside out squared circle.

Through a giant bay window, the ocean fills the room. This arc mirrors the arc of Monterey Bay.

The Tank Lounge Remembers private clubs with wood and leather, warm and comfortable. The theme of barrels and drums, echoes in the talk lounge furniture which can be assembled and configured for many interactions and occasions.

A fire heats one corner of the lounge, with a media screen opposite in another. Below are library shelves. Between is an amenity bar equipped for members to serve themselves.

Lego-like, the furniture pieces add and subtract to create many forms and enhance different types of events. Informal and formal, individual and collective, they can drift apart or draw together, reshaping the room for conversation, contemplation, or celebration.

Tank Lounge is both structured and fluid; a place for reflection, exchange and community suspended between sea and sky.
