Capp street project

San Francisco, CA

The Capp Street Project revitalizes a historic brick warehouse building for a nonprofit art organization supporting site specific installations.

The structure is upgraded, and new wooden storefronts inserted into existing openings enriching the façade. A stair, hanging from the second floor, connects an upper gallery, offices, and an artist residence with two ground floor galleries.

The stairs contain an archive and reception desk and are the only fixed elements, leaving the rest of the space open and free as a blank canvass, neutral as possible, for the installation of art.
