74 New Montgomery
San Francisco, CA
This apartment at 74 New Montgomery is in a converted commercial building with high ceilings and repeating punched windows. The corner unit has its open living dining and kitchen in the corner, flanked by a master suite and guest bedroom.
The goal is to unify the spaces and create the illusion of expansion through reduction. The wood floor becomes a wainscot which measures the perimeter of the main space as a continuous line which becomes the kitchen island and cabinets. Above mirrors are added between the windows creating a ribbon of reflection and light. Kitchen uppers continue in stainless steel, tying the elements together in singular bands.
The master suite has a floating bed/desk with a glass wall containing the long dressing room and bathroom all in grey tile.
An blood-red bar appears lit up behind concealed doors at one end of the kitchen.
